One of New England's best nine hole golf courses is located in Walpole and is open to the public. There are animal sanctuary and conservation land trails for hiking in all seasons. The Changing foliage in the Connecticut River Valley is glorious, usually peaking in mid-September into October. In the winter, Walpole is a cozy town to visit for getting away from the hustle and bustle of ski resorts, but it is a short drive from the slopes. In the spring, the people of Walpole enjoy the reawakening of their gardens; the abundant lilacs in town inspired Louisa May Alcott's book Under the Lilacs. Walpole in the summer is a lush and relaxed place, with Sunday evening concerts on the town common. |
